Let it rain...

Today is day two in what is supposed to be a full week of wet and windy weather. Bring it on. I went out yesterday in the rain-well, I started off dry. About an forty minutes into my ride it starting pouring. Needless to say, I cut my 3 hour ride a little short because I was completely soaked through and it was getting cold.

Kurt, my director, was completely right when he told me its just "money in the bank." Training in bad conditions definitely makes racing in such weather a lot less foreboding. Nothing will ever be as bad as the Boulevard Road Race last season. It started hailing on our descent followed by snow. That race turned into survival, not a race. I remember needing to have a teammate completely strip me down in our team trailer afterward because I lost complete function of my hands and fingers (that definitely made shifting and braking difficult). I realized during severe conditions you seem to lose feelings of modesty as I stood there naked just praying for dry clothes and not caring who saw me. I received treatment for hypothermia after the race and never want to deal with that pain of warming up ever again. So yea, the rain this week pretty much seems like nothing.

It does make getting the long rides done a little difficult and it looks like I will not get to motor pace on the track this week. Training camp is at the end of the week and its looking like the weather will stay throughout. Riding in the rain is definitely more tolerable with teammates though, so I'm sure it will be a fun time no matter what.

I am presently making tons of muffins for camp so its starting to feel like its that time already. I just finished some super healthy sweet potato muffins that I'm really excited about and am on to banana and pumpkin. Wish me luck!
